PERMIAS (Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia di Amerika Serikat) NEW YORK CITY is a non-profit student organization dedicated to promoting social, intellectual and cultural activities for Indonesian students in the New York City area; as well as assisting Indonesian students who are currently studying in New York City and those who are planning to study here.
As a member of the nationwide Indonesian Student Organization network that consists of all Indonesian students in North America, PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY has existed from all the way back in the 1960s. However, for the past two and a half years, PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY has been inactive due to a vacuum in leadership. Early this year, more particularly on January 17, 2004, PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY held its first election in 3 years to select the officers of the organization for the period of 2004-2005, in the hope of reviving the long-absent PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY.
PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY strives to provide opportunities and benefits for its members by facilitating the exchange of information between Indonesia and the Indonesian students studying in New York City. We also encourage all Indonesian students in New York City to get involved in organizing PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY events and to join our organization.
In hosting and organizing a variety of events ranging from athletic events to cultural nights, PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY works closely with the Indonesian governmental institutions here in New York City, which includes The Indonesian Consulate General in New York City and The Indonesian Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The officers of PERMIAS NEW YORK CITY are looking forward to working with all of the Indonesian students in New York City and to having a great year.
